How to Use COR
The COR modules have been designed to fit within the needs of your organization. There are five modules that each take approximately 60-90 minutes.
Select Modules Based on the Needs of Your Organization
The first module, Module 1: The Power of Relationships, provides a foundation for the rest of the modules by introducing the COR Model. The following modules focus on different aspects of building relationships. These modules can be used alone or in tandem with other modules for a professional development experience tailored to your needs.
For Individuals or a Group
Individuals in your organization can use COR independently, or it can serve as a professional development opportunity for your entire group.
The modules include:
Module 1: The Power of Relationships
This module focuses on one of the most powerful tools for educators − relationships. The Creating Opportunity through Relationships (COR) model is introduced, and learners examine three critical elements for forming relationships − awareness, observation, and interactions.
Module 2: Building Relationships through Awareness
This module addresses how beliefs and levels of awareness impact how we see classrooms and students. Learners see how beliefs can be helpful or harmful − and how we can be aware of our beliefs or not aware of them. Several practical strategies for increasing awareness are also introduced.
Module 3: Promoting Safety and Happiness
This module covers the power of interactions and how they help to form relationships. Learners look at types of interactions that promote safety and happiness for students, think about why safety and happiness matter, and learn a set of practical strategies for increasing these types of interactions in the classroom.
Module 4: Promoting Feeling Capable and Valued
This module covers specific types of interactions that help children feel capable and valued. Learners will think about why it matters that students have opportunities to feel capable and valued and learn a set of practical strategies for increasing these types of interactions in their classroom.
Module 5: Promoting Engagement in Learning
In this module, learners look at types of interactions that promote engagement in learning for students. This module covers why high levels of engagement matter and how they lead to stronger relationships. It also introduces a practical set of strategies for increasing these types of interactions in the classroom.
